Google introduced a new Multimodal filter in the Google Search Console Performance report that separates image-led web discovery from traditional text-based queries.
What the Multimodal Filter Covers
- Visual Inputs: Tracks traffic where an image, photo, or screenshot is part of the query.
- Included Features: Captures discovery from Google Lens, Circle to Search on Android, image uploads to Google Search, and Chrome's "Search this image" right-click option.
- Split Reporting: Under the Web search type, the data is divided into Text-based (typed/spoken keywords) and Multimodal.
Key Limitations
- No Query Data: Specific text or image query strings are unavailable because the searches rely on visual inputs rather than text.
- Available Metrics: You can still analyze performance using impressions, clicks, CTR, and average position filtered by Pages, Countries, Devices, and Dates.
- Not Google Images: This tracks standard web search results triggered by visual inputs, which is separate from the traditional Google Images search type.
